Fashion Showcase Observer writes about the fashion industry issues

Knockoff Fashion Becomes A Huge Industry Thanks to Allen Schwartz, Owner of ABS

Mr. Schwartz is in a special category. He has been able to give consumers what they have been looking for. Retailers and shop owners have been able to make a few bucks from the less expensive creations too. Many buyers can not afford to buy the more pricey design clothes created by the hot and top designers. From the beginning of the prom season to the start of the wedding season, names of hot designers such as Vera Wang and countless others have been on students' and parents' lips. These consumers, shoppers have been taking copious notes of the Oscar ceremony. They look for dresses and gown that look like what they saw on stars such as JLo and Eva Longoria. For sure, there is a huge market that is underserved. The hot designers do not realize the buying power of this age group. They only target those who can afford $1500 to $2500 dresses and gowns. Hey, guys, not everybody is a star out there! There are those of us who have to work hard and save to afford things.

That is the market that Allen Schwartz has targeted with ABS. It has made him a rich man. His legion of young shoppers could not be happier.

This record year's High Home Equity Pushes Parents to Spend Freely on Daughters' Prom & Quincenera

On the big prom night, high school seniors want to look their best in their dream dress. Whether they have that extra cash to spend on the look-alike dresses they have seen on major celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Cameron Diaz, Halle Berry and Beyonce Knowles or whether they can get their parents to spend lavishly on them is something else. Promgoers want to look their best on this magic night they have been anticipating for so long. Most girls will tell you that they envy the little black dress Eva Longoria from "Desperate Housewives" wore to the recent Golden Globe awards. Who else to know better than Allen Schwartz of ABS, the reigning king of knockoffs? He will tell you that most young women watch the Oscars just to get inspired by the creations and couture. In one word, prom participants would like to wear gowns that Cameron Diaz, Gwen Stefani and Halle Berry wear. But these gowns do not come cheap. Now find the cheap ones. A lot of them can not affort a $4,000 dress or gown, but many of them will go gaga over a $300 to $1,500 dress or gown.

The Glamorous and Elegant Actresses and Women of the 60th Annual Emmy Award, 2008

Who Was Wearing Which Designer, Emmy Award Dresses and Gowns Losers and Winners

During the week that brought us SanDisk's slotMusic, a new format that is meant to take over CDs and the financial storm that hits Wall Street's money grabbers, Emmy fans and observers are still talking about the classic fashions that dominate the red carpet. For sure, updos, strapless gowns and great accessories made the stars shine at the 60th annual Emmy awards ceremony.

Some of the best dressed women included Christina applegate, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Sandra Oh. These actresses hit all the right marks. They were hot. Heidi Klum, Mariska Hargitay, Marcia Cross, Vanessa Williams, Julia Louis Dreyfus and Sandra Oh have caused many fans to talk about their updos and gowns. Producer, writer and star Tina Fey was fabulous with her strapless gown. So was Teri Hatcher. This year, the catwalk trend and asymetric were seen on Vanessa Williams and Christina Applegate who, after her breast-cancer surgery, came in a sweeping gown in ice blue with metallic patches.

Sandra Oh moved from the worst-dressed list to the best-dressed list this year. She was wearing a retro-style black lace dress by Oscar de la Renta with a ribbon sash and a few sparkles on the skirt. They matched her resplendent 5.5-carat emerald-cut diamond earrings by Bulgari. Christina Hendricks donned a curve-hugging emerald green gown which went well with her red hair worn in an up-style twist. As far as Louis Dreyfus was concerned, she wore a salmon-colored Narciso Rodriguez dress with a fitted shiny bodice, complete with a sliver of skin showing under the bust.

Nicolette Sheridan wore a sleek strapless gown by Angel Sanchez in purple, a great fall color. Laura Dern was wearing purple too. Holly Hunter donned a plum Jenny Packham gown with a jeweled waist. Tina Fey donned an elegant sweetheart eggplant-colored gown by David Meister. Brooke Shields took the Emmy fashion to some higher levels. She was hot in a sexy pink lipstick-color strapless gown with a ruffle down the front and brooch on the side of her waist by Badgley Mischka. Heidi had lots of opportunity to wear her best dresses and gowns. At one point during the night, she donned a custom Giorgio Armani Prive gunmetal metallic gown with a one-shoulder capelet.

Model and reality host Padma Lakshmi wore a short gold Monique Lhuillier dress which showed her legs off. TV maven, diva and powerhouse Oprah Winfrey was wearing a red Jersey by her friend Donna Karan. Susan Sarandon did the same. Mariska Hargitay donned a soft one-shouldered, marigold-yellow gown by Carolina Herrera. Jennifer Love Hewitt was wearing a white-with black strapless gown by Herrera. Vanessa Williams was in a splashy white-and-black print dress by Kevan Hall. Kyra Sedgwick also wore white. Designed by L'Wren Scott, her dress featured diamond embroidery. American Ferrera donned a black bubble-hem dress which was complemented by a bold Fred Leighton necklace. Chandra Wilson had on a Tadashi Shoji halter gown. Kate Walsh wore a gown with alternating rows of crystals to go with a complete set of diamond-and-platinum jewelry by Neil Lane. Dana Delaney wore a vintage gown splashed with an Art Deco-style beaded embellishment. Glenn Close and Kristin Chenowith wore black Armani. Felicity Huffman sparkled in a split-neck silver gown. Beautiful as always, Eva Longoria was draped in a strapless gown by Marchesa. Her husband, NBA star, Tony Parker complemented her gown by wearing a silver-gray suit.

We are going to wait for next year's Emmy's fashion best and worst dressed.
