Are You Ready For Some Football?
Fresno Bulldogs Takes on USC Trojans in LA Memorial Coliseum
Bulldogs Coach Pat Hill is finally getting what he is deserving. He is about to receive the national recognition he earned for resurrecting Fresno State's Football program. He is ready to take his team of talented young players to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to play against USC's Coach Pete Carroll's best team under the firm directions of Quarterback Matt Leinart whose jersey sales and other accessories have rivaled those of famed NFL players. Coach Pat Hill vs. Pete Carroll. This is also what the devoted fans of the Trojans and Red Wavers have always lived for.
It's a dream come true. No. 16 Fresno State (8-1) at No. 1 USC (10-0. The deal was already sealed. Fresno State jumped on the occasion to showcase its program to the rest of the nation. USC needed some action in order to remain active in its preparation for December 3 home game with UCLA. That's how they intend to close the regular season.
Coach Pat Hill has been getting calls for interviews left and right. He was a guest on Jim Rome's nationally syndicated radio show. He also conducted an interview with the New York Times. Does this mean that Fresno State will be able to keep the coach as he is getting more and more popular? Even former NFL Coach Pete Carroll thinks that they will try to recruit him. He thinks that Pat should take the plunge and go back to the NFL. Pete does not feel worried about having to sell the Fresno State's program. It's selling itself. "I don't have any concern about that all," he said. "It's very clear they are a loaded football team; They have a winning background, they're a championship team, they've got senior leadership and special players at all key spots." Now, this is like gold. These statements come from a guy who knows what he is talking about. Pete Carroll is a former NFL coach who has taken USC to the top. The Trojans are 10-0. The numbers speak for themselves.
The true football can be found at the level of high school, college and university. No big money is there. The players are interested in the game for the sake of it. No pouting. No contracts to sign. Academics. the basics of the game. Those are some of the subjects that both Coach and student athletes are concerned about. The example of Matt Leinart who chose to stay at USC when he could leave for an NFL team offering a fat contract means a lot to the program. Time is on his side.
No matter what the pronostics are, Red Wavers are ready to take on the Trojans. They have already bought their tickets to the Los Angeles Coliseum. That's all everybody is talking about in the San Joaquin Valley. Even the women of die-hard fans are ready to travel to LA to witness history in the making. In fact, it could history part two. When Fresno State met with USC in 1992, the Bulldogs beat the Trojans badly, 24-7 in the Freedom Bowl That was a major victory. Fresno State's morale was up. With a superb quarterback and a good team, the Trojans are looking forward to teaching the Bulldogs a lesson. In fact, Matt Leinart said that he does not care who he plays, if it's a Pac-10 team, Fresno, Notre Dame or whoever. He thinks that all that matters is how his team plays. Bulldogs' best team will go to Los Angeles to take on this mighty dream team of Carroll's.
USC's Pete Carroll, Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart will not even know what hits them the day they play the Texas Longhorns in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Texas Longhorn Quarterback Vince Young will teach them a lesson
Nobody will be around. LA, here comes Fresno! Get ready for some Football, Bulldog style!

For sure, it is going to be a game many will be able to talk about. They will talk about Matt Leinart. They will talk about whether Pat Hill will not be zapped by an NFL team with all this press coverage he is going to receive. Fans and enemies alike will talk about USC's defensive line. They will discuss Fresno State's rankings, commercial winery and USC platinum record. The Bulldogs will find out what makes the Trojans great fans. The Red Wave will learn about Heritage Hall. It will also be an opportunity for the sophisticated crowd of Los Angeles to know something about the Central Valley as the fruit basket of the world. (Find more about the geography, Yosemite, Kings Canyon, beauty, agricultural production of the Valley by checking The Long Lost Garden of Eden).
Even if Fresno State loses this Saturday game, it will win in terms of the national press coverage the community will receive through Fox Sports Network. Highlights of its affordable homes will be shown. Fig Garden, River Park Shopping Center and Fashion Fair Mall can be featured as the ultimate shopping destinations in the Fresno-Clovis areas.
While the big boys of the NFL are wondering what this attraction to College and University Football may be due to, we, Trojans and Bulldogs, know exactly that these teams are from our communities. All the kids get is the kudo on the field. There's no time for them to fight with each other. They are united by the same spirit, the spirit of winning and bringing honor to their university programs and ultimately their communities and families. That should make the recruiting easier.
